[ The movie opens with Red XIII and his cubs looking over Midgar, which is in ruins. The screen then fades to black and the number '498 appears onscreen, indicating 498 beforehand.
A Shinra helicopter makes circles around the Northern Crater.]
Elena: [ Voice over radio] Look at this!
Tseng: [ Voice also over radio ] Hmm?
Elena: Not a pretty sight, is it?
[ Zooms into a helicopter where it shows Reno at the controls ]
Reno: Who cares? Just get the damn thing.
Tseng: Reno, the chopper!
Reno: You got it. [ Smirks and navigates the helicopter into the crater. Gunshots can be heard. ]
Tseng: Whoa, whoa, whoa!!
Elena: Reno, hurry! ... Reno!!
Tseng: What the hell was that?
[ More gunshots are heard and Elena groans ]
Tseng: ELENA!!
[ Even more gunshots ]
Elena: ..G-Get... ou...
Tseng: Dammit.
[ Radio goes dead and Reno's helicoptor flies out ]
[ The screen fades and then a screen with the lifestream comes up. It is Marlene narrorating while different scenes come up appropriate for the spoken text. ]
Marlene's Narroration: The Lifestream. That's what we call the river of life that circles our planet giving life to the world and everything in it. The Shinra electric power company discovered a way to use the Lifestream as an energy source. Because of Shinra's energy, we were able to live very comfortable lives. Wasn't that because we were taking away from the planet's life? A lot of people thought so. Shinra used their power to try and stop anybody who got in their way. Shinra had a special group of warriors called SOLDIER, and all of the SOLDIER had Jenova cells put inside of them. Jenova was a calamity that fell from the sky a long, long time ago and tried to destroy the planet.
Anyway, there was one SOLDIER named Sephiroth who was smarter than the rest. When he found out about the terrible expirements that made him, he began to hate Shinra, and then, over time, he began to hate everything.
Shinra and the people against them, Sephiroth, who hated the planet so much he wanted to make it go away, and the people who tried to stop him. There were a lot of battles. For every battle, there was more sadness. Someone I loved went back to the Lifestream, too. And then it came - The chosen day. In the end, the planet itself had to make the battles gone for good. The planet used the Lifestream as a weapon. And when it burst out of the earth, all the fighting, all the grief and sadness, everything... was washed away.
Sadness was the price to see it end. It's been two years since they told me that.
[ Shows the small town outside of Midgar known as Edge. The streets seem busy with lots of people roaming about. Eventually, a few children are show. ]
Boy: Let's go.
Girl: Yeah!
[ The boy jumps and splashes in a puddle. ]
Marlene Narroration: But it looks like the planet is a lot madder than we thought.
[ A little boy falls over and then it shows Marlene looking over a little boy named Denzel.
Marlene Narroration: They call it Geostigma.
[ Denzel rubs his forehead and looks up at Marlene. ]
Denzel: Well, Marlene, how does it look?
[ Marlene then puts a bandage back on Denzel's head. ]
Marlene Narroration: Please... please don't take Denzel away.
[ Goes to a shot of people walking down the street with children sitting against buildings in an ally. A sign appears that says "7th Heaven" and a phone rings. It then goes to a shot of a woman in the bar - Tifa, of course. She cleans up some dishes and then looks towards the ringing phone, heading up a small flight of stairs. She checks on the children and then walks into the room. There is a picture of Cloud, Marlene, Denzel and herself on a desk. ]
Tifa: Hello, Strife delivery services. You name it, we deliv..e... [ Pauses and places hand on hip ] May I ask who's calling? [ Small laugh ] Yeah, I remember you.
[ Goes to a scene of the buster sword and a wolf standing right beside it. It then shows Cloud sitting on his motorcycle on his cell phone. ]
Tifa's Voice Mail Message: You got a call from Reno - he's in Healin', says he's got work for you. Cloud, how have you been?
Voice Mail: You have no new messages.
[ Shows Cloud put away his phone. Cloud puts on his sunglasses and goes to start his motorcycle, but he has an attack from the Geostigma. He clutches his arm and then drives off. The screen moves over to the Buster Sword and three men drive up on motorcycles and kick it down. ]
Yazoo: [ Referring to Midgar ] Hey Kadaj, is that where big brother lives?
Kadaj: Yeah.
Yazoo: Do you think he'll be glad to see us?
Kadaj: Not a chance.
Loz: Don't cry, Yazoo.
Yazoo: But Mother's with him.
Kadaj: Maybe not.
[ Loz starts sobbing ]
Yazoo: Don't cry, Loz.
Kadaj: Hold on, he's coming.
[ Shows Cloud on motorcycle down below cliff. Yazoo and Loz nod to each other and follow after Cloud. Two monsters then appear behind Cloud out of nowhere and start attacking him. Cloud draws his sword and fights back. Loz catches up with Cloud ]
Loz: Where's mother?
[ Loz then attacks Cloud. Yazoo also drives up and starts shooting at Cloud ]
Yazoo: We know you hid her, brother.
[ The Monsters, Yazoo, and Loz keep on attacking Cloud as he fights back. ]
Kadaj: Don't tell me, you're leading me on, 'cause I think you DO have mother there. [ Shows Kadaj at his motorcycle on the phone ] No need to shout. I don't want to talk to you anymore. Put the president on.
[ Goes back to Cloud, Yazoo and Loz. Cloud's Geostigma starts bothering him while he is fighting them. Loz pushes Cloud's sword away and Yazoo comes up and shoots at Cloud, knocking his sunglasses off while wounding him between the eyes. Yazoo and Loz then retreat and the monsters Jump up at Cloud ready to pounce all at once, but as they are about ready to do so Kadaj raises his hand and they all dissappear. Cloud stops and looks up at Kadaj, and Kadaj looks back, smirks and then drives off. ]
