[ The scene changes to the Forgotten City where Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz have gathered a bunch of children from the Edge. A big box of materia is there with them from the church ]
Kadaj: Look at what Brother was hiding... Powers forged in the Lifestream. With this materia, those powers will be ours.
[ Kadaj absorbs a green materia. The scene then goes back to the Edge in the 7th Heaven where Cloud is looking out a window. Tifa wakes up shortly afterwards ]
Cloud: Reno and Rude are out looking.
[ Shows a short clip of Cloud going through that Forest on his motorcycle then shifts back ]
Tifa: You have Geostigma, don't you? You are going to give up and die, is that it? [ Cloud is silent ] So it is...
Cloud: There is no cure.
Tifa: Yeah, but that's not stopping Denzel, is it? Don't run! Let's fight it together! We can help each other, I know we can.
[ Cloud is silent again ]
Tifa: I guess that only works for real families...
Cloud: Tifa... I'm not fit to help anyone. Not my family, not my friends, nobody.
Reno: No, only a witness. Kadaj's gang took the kids.
Cloud: Where are they?
Rude: They're at their base now. The Forgotten City.
[ Shows Cloud zooming in on his motorcycle again, then flashes back to Kadaj and the gang in front of the Children at the lake in the Forgotten City ]
Kadaj: Mother has given me a very special gift. The power to fight against a planet that torments humanity. She gave this gift to all her children. That's right, you and I are breathearn. Brothers and sisters chosen when we inherited Mother's legacy from the Lifestram! But... the planet doesn't approve of that, at all. It's doing everything it can to hold us back. That's why it's racking our bodies with pain and filling our hearts with doubt! Now... I shall heal you and we shall go to Mother together!
[ Kadaj starts glowing ]
Kadaj: We will join as a family and strike back at the planet!
[ a weird substance shoots from Kadaj ]
Kadaj: Do as I do.
[ Kadaj then walks into the Jenova cell contaminated water and takes a drink, then the kids to the same as he does. Marlene sees Denzel and screams out for him to stop ]
Marlene: Denzel!
[ Denzel drinks it anyway ]
Marlene Denzel!!!
[ Shows Cloud driving through the area once again. As he does so, he suddenly ends up engulfed by a bright light, where he ends up back-to-back with Aeris ]
Aeris: You came! ...Even though you're about to break, hmm? [ She places her hand on his arm ] That's a good sign. So, why did you come?
Cloud: I think... I wanna be forgiven. More than anything.
Aeris: By who?
[ Cloud turns around and he's back on his motorcycle. Then there are gunshots, he swerves. Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz appear as Cloud approaches. Kadaj then waves his hand and the children from earlier jump out, blocking Cloud's path. Cloud swerves to avoid them and ends up falling to the ground off of his motorcycle ]
Kadaj: I'm glad you could make it!!
Cloud: I only came for the kids.
Kadaj: See this man? He's our big brother. But, alas, in our happy flock... [ Kadaj puts sword to Cloud's face ] He's what you'd call a black sheep.
Marlene: Cloud!!
[ Kadaj turns around in the direction of the voice and Cloud takes the chance to pick back up his sword, then a battle begins. Eventually a red figure appears and wraps itself around Cloud, protecting him and ultimately taking him away to a secluded part of the forest ]
Cloud: See? I knew I'd be no help. Vincent! What do you know about this?
Vincent: I come here often. I've seen what Kadaj's group is doing. [ Vincent touches Cloud's arm and the stigma bothers him again ] The stigma... it's a symphtom of alien matter infesting the body. The body tries to eliminate it and overcompensates. [ Gets up and walks ] Inside our bodies is a current... like the Lifestream. That current is what fights out any malevolent intruders.
Cloud: What do you mean by... intruder?
Vincent: The Sephiroth gene. Jenova's memetic legacy.
Cloud: You're well informed...
Vincent: Tseng and Elena... they were brought here half dead. They must have been brutally tortured. I did what I could to save them, but, well, we'll see.
Cloud: ... Tortured?
Vincent: They had it coming. They got their hands on Jenova's head.
Cloud: Then when Kadaj says he's looking for Mother...
Vincent: Heaven's dark harbinger. The calamity. Jenova. If they wanted to, they could recreate Sephiroth.
Cloud: Kadaj... What is he?
Vincent: I'd rather not know.
[ There is a rattling in the bushes and Cloud quickly jumps up and draws his sword. It ends up being only Marlene ]
Cloud: Marlene!
Marlene: Cloud! Denzel and Tifa...!!
Cloud: Tifa is alright.
Marlene: I want to talk to her.
[ Cloud looks for his cellphone but realizes he lost it. Marlene looks to Vincent ]
Marlene: May I?
[ Vincent opens his cape and shows he does not have a phone of his own ]
Marlene: You don't have a phone?!
Cloud: Vincent! Will you bring Marlene to Tifa? I'm going to go see Shinra and get a few answers.
Vincent: I can't do that.
Cloud: But I...
Marlene: [ Quickly backs away from Cloud ] Forget it, Cloud! Why don't you ever pay any attention to us?! [ Runs and hides under Vincent's cape ]
Cloud: Marlene... Please, give me some time. There's a battle to be fought, but it's not as simple as just fighting it. You understand?
Marlene: No, I don't!!!
Vincent: Cloud... You sure this is about fighting?
Cloud's Voice: Where are they?
[ Flashback ]
Rude: They are at their base now - the Forgotten City.
Cloud: Go. I have to talk to Rufus.
Tifa: Stop running! I know! Even if you find the kids you might not be able to help them. Maybe something will happen that can never unhappen, that scares you, doesn't it? But you need to think about now. Really take it in! Look at you, you think you've got it so damn hard. Well, you hate being alone, so let people in! Sure, you may not answer the phone, but I don't see you throwing it away, either.
Reno: ... You go. The base is all yours. [Reno and Rude walk out ]
Tifa: Which is it? A memory or us?
[ Cloud starts thinking and the screen fades back to white with him in it ]
Cloud: But... I let you die.
Aeris' Voice: [ Sigh ] Dilly dally, shilly shally. Isn't it time you did the forgiving?
[ Back in the forest ]
Cloud: Were our sins ever forgiven?
Vincent: I've never tried.
Cloud: You mean... never tried...? [ Long pause ] Marlene, let's go!
[ Marlene smiles and runs to Cloud ]
Cloud: Well, I'm gonna try. I'll phone in the verdict.
[ The two walk off together, hand-in-hand. A scene then plays where Cloud's phone falls to the bottom of the lake as messages play on it. ]
Reeve's message: It's me, Reeve. How's work going? I saw your flyer. How in the world do you stay in buisness? Hah, you never change, Cloud. If it's alright, I was thinking of helping you out. I guess I'll call back another time.
Yuffie's Message: Surprise! It's me, Yuffie!
[ Messages start to become pushes together and ununderstandable. The phone then falls to the bottom, and one last message plays ]
Aeris' Message: I never blamed you. Not once. You came for me. That's all that matters.
[ Phone dies and then another scene shows the Wolf by the lake ]
