Tidus:Wakes up with face in the water. Rikku. A Blitzball hits his head. Blitzball!
Man: Hey! you ok?
Tidus: Heey! Tidus Does some kind of blitzball move
[FMV Plays]
Man: Whoa-oh!
Tidus swims to the island and stands there. Everyone gathers around him.
Tidus: Yo! Hiya!
Man: You wanna try that move one more time?
Tidus narriartion: Finally,things were starting to look up.
Tidus does the blitzball trick again.
Man: You're no ameture. Who you play for?
Tidus: The Zanarkand Abes!
Everyone gasps and looks around startled.
Man: what team you say again?
Tidus: Uh,I meant...Forget that. I got too uh... close to sin and my head's all foggy-like. So I don't really know where this
place is,or even where I came from.
Man: Sin's toxin got to you. But,you're still alove. Praise be to Yevon! All right,back to practice! I'm Wakka,coach
and captain of the Besaid Aurochs,brudda. What? You hungry? Okay! Back to the village. I'llget you somethin'!
Wakka walks off and Tidus goes by him.
Tidus Narriartion: I felt like I could trust this Wakka,so I just had to ask.
Tidus: It's true Zanarkand was destroyed,right? A thousand years ago? so it's just a bug pile of rubble now,isn't it?
Wakka: Long time ago,there were a whole lot of cities in spira. Big cities with machina -- machines -- to run 'em. People
played all day and let the machina do all the work. And then,well,take a look. Sin came,and destroyed the machina cities and Zanarkand along with 'em.
Yeah,that was about a thousand years ago,just like you said. If you ask me,Sin's our punishment for letting things get out of hand. What gets me,though...
is we gotta suffer 'cause of what some goofballs did way back when! 'Course,we must always repent for our sins! That's important. It's just that,
it's hard to keep at it sometimes,you know?
Tidus Narriration: It was just as Rikku Said. Wakka and Rikku couldn't be both lying,why would they?
Wakka:Laughs really loud. But you from Zanarkand Ables---that was a good one! Hey,I'm not aying the team never existied,ya? But you gotta figure a team livin' in luxury
like that'd be pretty soft,eh?
Tidus narriaration: I appreciated the fact that Wakka was trying to cheer me up. But at that time all I could think about was...everything that happened to me--all this--started with Sin.
Maybe if I could find sin one more time,I could go home! For now,I'd just love life until that time came. No more worrying about where,or when,I was.
Sure,it was hard not to think of home. But I started to feel better allready.
Alittle better...maybe.
Wakka: Hey! It's this way.
Wakka runs and Tidus follows. They look down a huge cliff with water beyond it.
Tidus: Huh?
Wakka pushes Tidus off the cliff and into the water below. Wakka then jumps in himself.
Tidus: What's the big idea?
After awhile they stop almost when they are out of the small body of water. Wakka comes up behind Tidus and grabs him around the shoulders.
Tidus: Lemme go!
Wakka: I got a favor to ask ya.
You want me to play on your team,right?
Wakka lets Tidus go.
Wakka:A major blitz tournament's coming up. All of the teams in Spira'll be there!
It's so huge,I'm sure someone there will recognize you! Then you can go back to your old team,right?
It'll be fun! What do you say,huh? Come on,come on!
Tidus: Sure thing.
Wakka: Dude! Our team is gonna rock,eh?
Tidus Narriration: I thought then that blitzball and sin where the only two things that Spira had in common. I wasn't too far off either.
The two of them appear standing on top of alarge hill.
Wakka: This is where I was born. I started blitz when I was five. I joined the Aurochs at thirteen...ten years ago.
Ten years...and we never won a game. Well,after last year's tournament,I quit. Time seemed right. So,after quitting,I got this new job,ya? But every time my mind wondered,I thought about the game.
Tidus: Ten year without a single win'll do that.
Wakka: My first match last year was my big chance. But something else was on my mind. I couldn't focus.
Tidus: Nice excuse.
Wakka: Hey,hey!
Tidus: So you want to win the next tournament--go out with a bang. So,what's our goal?
Wakka: I don't care how well we go. Long as we play our best. If we give it our all,I can be happy.
Tidus: No,no,no,no. If I say,"What's out goal?" you say,"Victory!" When you play in a blitzball match you play to win!
Wakka: Victory? You serious?
The two of them go down the hill
Some man: Ah,the one from the sea!
other man: Be on guard. There're fiends on the road today!
First Man: After survivng a run-in with sim,it would be a shame if something happened now.
Tidus: Who where they?
WAkka: Luzza and Gatta. Crusaders.
Tidus: Clews of what?
Wakka: what,you forgot that,too?
Hey,sorry. Don't worry about it. I'll help you out.
Tidus: Cool. In return,come tournament time,I'll make sure we take the cup!
Wakka: Cool. About the crusaders,you can ask them yourself. They'cer got
a lodge in the village.
Wakka: besaid Village.
Tidus: They got any food there?
Wakka: We'll get you something over there later. Points. Take a look around first. Let's see...The Crusaders lodge is over younder. Luzzu and Gatta are
usually there. Oh,right. Over here! Leads Tidus behind building.
Tidus: huh? What's up?
Wakka: You do remember the prayer,right?
Tidus narriration if you choose "I don't know any prayers": Of course I'd never prayed before in my life.
Not that he would know that...
Wakka: You...must have forgot or something. Here,I'll show you. Stands back and shows Tidus. Go ahead,you try. Tidus does it. Hey,not bad.
Okay,now go present yourself to the temple summoner.
Tidus narriration: Any blitzball player would know that prayer. It was the blitzball sign for victory.
[In the temple]
Tidus narriration: It was then,standing in that place. I began to realize how diffrent this world was from my own.
Tidus goes and looks at a statue.
Man: 10 years have passed since Lord Braska becamse high summoner. And finally we recieve a statue for our temple.
Tidus: What's a high summoner?
People look at him.
Tidus: I...I got too close to Sin's,uh,toxin.
Tidus Narriration: It was funny hearing myself make the same excuse over and over. Funny,and a little sad.
Man: The Summoner's are practitioners of a sacred art,sword to protect the people of Yevon. Only a chosen few become summoners,who can call forth entried of great power,the aeons. The aeons hear
our prayers and come down to us. The are the blessing of Yevon.
Tidus narriration: So what he ment...was we should respect some kinda great man or something like that...I figured.
[at Wakka's]
Wakka: Sorry,man. No time for lunch yet. Take a nap! You look bushed.
Tidus lays down and man walks in.
Man: you could at least go see how they are doing.
Wakka: We can't interfere. It's a rule.
Man: But,it's been nearly...
[Tidus Dream]
Man: But,it's been nearly...It's been nearly a day allready.
Woman: Perhaps you could go look for us.
Man: People are searching for him right now.
Woman: Thank you.
Small Tidus: Who cared whether he comes back or not?
Woman: But he might die!
Small Tidus: Fine,let him!
Woman: Do you...do you hate him so? If he dies,you''ll never be able to tell him how much you hate him.
[Tidus wakes up]
Tidus: Wakka?
[Tidus goes to the temple and walks up to where Wakka is.]
Tidus: Is something wrong?
Wakka: The Summoner hasn't returned from the trial.
Tidus: Eh?
Wakka: We'll,apprentice summoner,actually...
Tidus: Ah?
Wakka: There's a room in there called the cloister of trials. Beyond where the apprentice summoner
prays. If the prayer is heard,the appretice summoner becomes a fully-fledged summoner,remember?
Tidus: So someone is in there somewhere and they haven't come back out,right,got it.
Wakka:A day's allready gone by.
Tidus:Is it particularly dangerous in there?
Wakka: sometimes,yes.
Tidus:Why don't you go in there and help?
Wakka: There's allready guardians in there. Besides,it's forbidden.
Tidus: hey,but what if the somethin' happens? What if the summoner dies?
Man: The Precepts must be obeyed!
Tidus: Like I care!
Tidus narriration: Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.
<[Inside after the puzzle is completed.]
Wakka: Hey. What's gotten into you? hey,it's okay. Only summoners,apprentice summoners and their guardians can enter here. It's a tradition. Very Important.
Tidus: So,what about you?
Wakka: Me? I'm a guardian.
Tidus: A guardian?
[they head down]
Wakka: Summoners go on a pilgrimage to pray at every temple in Spira. Guardian's protect them. The Guarduans in there now... one of them's got
a short fuse and who knows what the other's thinking. Well,now that we've come this far...might as well go all the way!
they walk in
Woman: what are you doing here? Didn't think we'd be able to handle it?
Wakka: No,it's uh...it's just...See,I told you she gets mad easy.
Tidus: Is the summoner all right?
Woman:who are you?
[summoner FMV Plays.]
Summoner:I've done it. I have become a summoner!
[FMV ends and everyone appears in the main temple room.]
Tidus Narriration: Man,was I suprised. And here I was thiking summoners were all old geezzers. Goes outside.
Wakka:Hey,over here!
Tidus: what? Ow!
Wakka: wait till you see this!
Tidus: I can't see anything!
Wakka: ready!
Summoner:Okay
Summoner summons an aeon.
Tidus NArriaration: I never seen anything like it before in my life. Sire,it was kind of scary...But,I could feel a strange kind of gentleness from it. I remember...that night,we talked for the first time.
I didn't know it the,but after that night,everything changed. For everyone...for me...
[that night]
Wakka: Let me introduce you to the team. This guy here wants to be in the tournament so bad,I let him on the team. His memory's a little fuzzy,so
don't mind him if he says anything odd! Come on,say hi.
Tidus:Uh...hi,guys. So,whats our goal?
Team:To do our best!
Wakka: nope,we got a new goal now! Our new oal...is victory! To win every match,defeat every opposing team. To bring the Crystal Cup back to our island!
Thats all we need to do to win! easy,ya?
Team:Victory...
[tidus watches yuna]
Team: Victory! Victory! Victory!
[Tidus goes up to her.]
Person:You heathen! Stay away from the summoner! You're a bad man! Lady Yuna! Be Careful!
SummonerL But,it was really my fault to begin with.
walks to Tidus. I'm Yuna. Than you so much for your help earlier.
Tidus:I'm sorry about that. Wasn't that. Wasn't I not supposed to..guess I..kind of overreacted.
Yuna: oh,no. I was overconfident.
Tidus: Um,I saw that one thing. That was amazing.
Yuna:Really? Do you think I can become high summoner?
Girl:Lady Yuna,come play with me some more.
Yuna: So,tomorrow then?
Tidus: Tomorrow?
Yuna: We're going on thhe sane boat,aren't we?
Tidus:Oh,really?
Yuna: We can talk more.
You can tell me all about Zanarkand.
[wakka comes to Tidus]
Wakka: She cute,ya?

Wakka: Then we're cool.
Tidus: hey,but what if she,like,comes on to me?
Wakka: that's not going to happen. If you get tired let me know. I had a bed made for you.
[Tidus Dream]
Tidus: Where's the boat?
Yuna: everyone will find us if it doesn't come soon.
Tidus: you really sure this is okay?
Yuna: Would you take me to Zanarkand?
Rikku: hey! you said you'd go with me.
Yuna: He did?
Rikku: yeah,so your coming with me!
Jecht: Hey! Stop dreaming! You,with a woman? You can't even catch a ball! Oh,what's the matter? Gonna cry again? Cry,cry. That's the only thing your good for!
Tidus: I hate you.
Jecht: Huh? What'd you say?
Yuna: You have to speak loudly.
Tidus: I hate you!
Jecht: Eh?
Rikku: that's the spirit!
Yuna: You can do it!
[end of dream and Tidus wakes up]
Tidus: I hate you!
Woman's voice: He's dead,okay? Dead!
Tidus goes and listens
[fmv plays and then ends.]
Wakka walks in.
Tidus: Scary! So,who's Chappu?
Wakka: My little brother,Chappu. He looked like you.
Tidus: He's dead?
Wakka: he was with the crusaders when the faught Sin last year,he didn't make it through. I first heard on the day of the tournament.
Tidus: Oh,that's why.
Wakka: I became a guardian to fight Sin,ya?
Tidus: Revenge,then?
Wakka: That was the idea. I'm more worried about a stupid game now than avenging my brother. Well,after the next tournament, I'll be a guardian full-time. I know it kinda looks like I'm using you,but I'm not.
Tidus: Don't Worry. I mean,I really owe you a lot. You really helped me out,you know? What I mean is...thanks,Wakka.
Wakka: Stop. You're Embarassing me!
[after Tidus Wakes up.]
Wakka: Hey! Sleepyhead! Something I want to give to you. Shows Tidus a long,blue sword.
Tidus: Whoa! You're giving this...to me?
Wakka: Yeah,use it well!
Tidus plays around with it.
Lulu: That's the sword you gave to Chappu.
Wakka: Well,he never used it. Where's Yuna.
Tidus: We're taking the same boatt as Yuna,right? Why do we have to wait here?
Wakka: Yuna came to this village 10 years ago,when the last calm started.
Tidus: The Calm?
Wakka: Since then.she's been like a little sister to Lulu and me. But she had the talent...she became and apprentice. Now,today,she becomes a summoner.
Lulu: This is out journey. We should leave together.
[yuna comes out with a big thing of luggage.]
Lulu: You really don't need all that luggage.
Yuna: They're not really my things. They're gifts for the temples we're to visit.
Wakka: This isn;t a vacation,Yuna.
Yuna: I guess...I guess you're right. Walks to them.
Wakka:Okay! Off we go!
[on hill looking over Besaid.]
Lulu: Take your Time.
Tidus: Let's get going man!
Wakka: We're gonna wait here. Are you ready?
Tidus: what's going on?
[wakka prays at statue.]
Wakka: It's an ancient custon. People leaving the island pray here for a safe trip. Chappu didn't pray that day. Said he'd miss the boat...that should d oit.
[walk alittle further on and kimahri fights Tidus.]
Wakka: That's Enough!
Tidus: What's with that guy?
Lulu: Kimahri Ronso,of the Ronso tribe. He's learned the fiends way of fighting.
Tidus: that's not what I ment!
Wakka: He's another of Yuna's guardians.
Yuna: Sometimes we don't understand him either. Kimahri doesn't talk much anyway. But he has protected me since I was a child.
