Oritsuru » Final Fantasy X » Overdrives
|
In Final Fantasy X, like most other games, character are able to use special attacks at certain times that can increase their power and greatly damage a foe. In previous games this was known as Limit Breaks, but in this game they are called overdrives.
In order to use an overdrive in battle, characters must take a certain amount of damage in battle. On screen you will see an overdrive guage under each characters battle statistics. Once it is full it will flash "overdrive" when the character's turn is up.
Each character has a unique overdrive that only they can use. Below is information on each character's overdrive.
Tidus - Swordplay
Tidus uses various devastating sword attacks that he unleashes against one or all enemies on the battle screen. He has four diffrent special overdrive attacks, all which are unlocked after successfully completing so many overdrive attacks. After choosing one and the screen coming up, you'll need to guide Tidus on his overdrive. A bar will come up with a small area in the middle. Your goal will be to get the cursor right in the middle where that special place on that bar appears. Doing so will allow Tidus to cause even more damage with his attack.
| Name | Target | Attempts to Learn |
| Spiral Cut | One | --- |
| Slice & Dice | Random | Perform 10 Successful Overdrives |
| Energy Rain | All | Perform 30 Successful Overdrives |
| Blitz Ace | All | Perform 80 Successful Overdrives |
Yuna - Grand Summon
Yuna's overdrive is very simple. Once she goes into overdrive mode you will be able to summon any Aeon and it'll automatically have a full overdrive guage. You'll need to make sure to use this overdrive right away! However, if the Aeon previously was in overdrive mode before Yuna summons it, it will be again right after it uses the overdrive from Yuna's summon. So, this basically means it is possible to use two Aeon overdrives in a row! Awesome!
Auron - Bushido
Bushido, way of the warrior, is Auron's unique overdrive. He will swing his sword at enemies. This overdrive can be a bit tricky, though, as you'll have to take a look on screen and press the buttons in the order that they appear. After a bit of practice, though, it'll get easier for you. If you successfully press all buttons in the correct order in the time limit, he'll cause even more damage to the target(s)!
In order to unlock the rest of his overdrives, you'll need to look around the world for Jecht spheres. These can be gotten throughout the course of the game.

Lulu's overdrive allows her to cast a spell an unlimited amount of times with 0 MP Consumption. It can be any spell that she has already learned on the sphere grid that is Black Magic. In order to execute the overdrive, you'll need to select a spell. After selecting the spell rotate the right analog stick as quickly as possible. Each rotation will allow for it to be casted an extra time.
Rikku - Mix
Rikku's overdrive allows her to mix two items together. Depending on which two that are mixed, diffrent effects will take place which can either damage monsters or aid the party in some way. There is a great amount of mixes, so please see the mix page for extra details on this overdrive.
Wakka - Slots
Wakka's overdrive requires you to line up three slots. Depending on what you line up Wakka will perform an elemental (or status) attack. In order to get more overdrives for him, you'll need to win Blitzball tournaments. A pain in the butt, but if you really want them, you can do it!
