Basic Information In the Story (Non-Spoiling)
Amarant is a man which has been classified as a "thief" throughout Treno, he's also a wanted man for a crime he had commited. After the events in Alexandria on Disc 2, Queen Brahne summons two people to the castle to help in the pendant which Princess Garnet wears. These two Individuals are none other than Amarant and a beautiful bounty hunter by the name of Lani. The two of them follow Zidane and company to the Outer Continent, but Amarant does not show himself until the Party Reaches Madain Sari, where he challenges Zidane to a duel.
His motives are rather uncertain, and he really doesn't talk a whole lot about things, but he does join Zidane's party for the time being afterwards.
Spoiling Information
This information is rather spoiling so it would be best if you did not read on in this section until you have completed the game.
Not a whole lot of information is given on Amarant's past during the game due to his dislike in discussing those things, but it is found out that even though Amarant is a 'wanted' man for his crimes, those crimes were actually comitted by another person, that being Zidane. Amarant was merely a security Guard at the Treno auction house at the time the events took place. Zidane doesn't seem to remember this, but Amarant does.
