Oritsuru » Final Fantasy IX » Eidolons

In Final Fantasy IX the powerful creatures which can be summoned are called Eidolons. Towards the beginning of the game, Dagger will have the summon command avaliable in the window, but during the course of the first disc of the game she will not be able to summon these powerful creatures. Only later on sometime during disc 2 after certain events will she gain the power to do this.

Eidolons are learnt from the various gemstone accessories which your characters will find during the game. When an Eidolon is summoned the sequence has a chance of being slightly different. If the summon animation consists of only a weapon or a spell being thrown out to damage the enemies, then the damage will be normal. Though, if the Eidolon comes down to do damage in the animation sequence, then that means the damage dealt to the enemies is almost double that of what it would be in the normal summon animation.

Both Dagger and Eiko use summon magic, but there summons greatly differ. Below is a list of their summon monsters.

Garnet's Eidolons

SummonEffectMP
RamuhThunder Damage to all enemies22
ShivaIce Damage to all enemies24
IfritFire Damage to all enemies26
AtomosReduces all enemies' HP by a certain percentage32
OdinHas the chance to cause KO to each enemy28
LeviathanWater Damage to all enemies42
BahamutNon-Elemental Damage to all enemies56
ArkShadow Damage to all enemies80

Eiko's Eidolons

SummonEffectMP
CarbuncleCasts Reflect on entire party24
FenrirCauses Earth Damage to all enemies30
PhoenixCauses Fire Damage to all enemies and restores party from KO32
MadeenCauses Holy Damage to all enemies54

There is one difference with Eiko's summons. Depending on what accessory Eiko has equiped, the Eidolon might perform a different action than it normally would. Also, once Phoenix is summoned for the first time, there is a chance that it will randomly come and revive the KO'd party if they all die during battle. Very handy!

Variations for Eiko's Eidolons

Emerald - Emerald Light
With the Emerald equipped, Carbuncle will cast haste on the entire party instead of reflect.

Moonstone - Pearl Light
With the Moonstone equipped, Carbuncle will cast shell on the party instead of reflect.

Diamond - Diamond Light
With the Diamond equipped, Carbuncle will cast vanish on the party instead of reflect.

Maiden Prayer - Millennial Decay
With the Maiden Prayer equipped, Fenrir will cause Wind damage to enemies instead of Earth.
