A thief from Lindblum. Zidane lives in the Theatre district with his friends Blank, Marcus and Cinna. The four of them are part of a group known as Tantalus which is headed by a rather gruff man by the name of Baku. One day Tantalus heads out to Alexandria to perform a play called I Want to Be Your Canary. However, this is mostly just distraction so that Zidane and Blank can go in and kidnap the hier to the throne of Alexandria, Princess Garnet.
When Zidane does go to Kidnap Garnet she runs off and he chases her back to the Theatre ship where she tells him just what her plans were. From then on the two travel together back to Lindblum.
Zidane is a sneaky thief. That much can be collected by playing the game for a few moments. He's easy-going and loves to flirt with attractive girls. Basically, he has a very upbeat and fun-loving personality through a good deal of the game, which makes him a very likable character. Zidane also is a very loyal friend and would do just about anything for them, whether that be giving them words of advice as he does for Vivi throughout the game, or doing things for his other friends as he does numerous times throughout the course of the game.
Though he does seem rather content with everything in his life, deep-down there are things which bother him such as not knowing where he came from. He does feel like he belongs with Tantalus and appreciates Baku taking him under his wing, but he would really like to know who his real family is, which had caused him to become a thief and join Tantalus in the first place. Basically, while helping others, he's also looking for his place in the world at the same time.
Spoiling Information
This information is rather spoiling so it would be best if you did not read on in this section until you have completed the game.
Several years ago on the other planet, Terra, the people were certain that their civilization was close to it's end. As a result, Garland created an "Angel of Death", Kuja. The Angel of Death's role was to find the most powerful forces on the other planet, Gaia. Garland's plan was to send the Angel of Death down there to help aid in the assimilation of Gaia in order to Save Terra, however, Garland knew that Kuja would eventually die, so he created a second "Angel of Death" which would be Zidane. Zidane would ultimatly replace Kuja in this role to find the powers on Gaia.
Kuja became jealous from all this, knowing that he had a replacement and would eventually die. The silver-haired man dropped Zidane off in Gaia from his jealousy. At this time Zidane was taken in by Tantalus and was raised by Baku, the leader of the group.
Zidane doesn't know anything about his past at this point and simply goes wherever his feet take him. But eventually he does get caught up in Kuja's scheme and looks for a way to save the three great nations, and eventually Gaia itself.
